Who am I?
Christian Ahlskog studied organ with Dan Lönnqvist at Novia University of Applied Sciences in Pietarsaari (Finland) between 1996 and 1999. He studied at the Sibelius Academy under Kari Jussila from 1999 to 2004 and passed an organ performance level A in 2004 with a superior rating. Ahlskog graduated with a Master of Music degree from the Sibelius Academy’s Department of Church Music in 2005.
Additionally, he broadened his knowledge of improvisation under the direction of Kaj-Erik Gustafsson and Anders Bondeman. Between 2004 and 2006 he studied organ at the Conservatory of Amsterdam under the direction of Pieter van Dijk, and clavichord and cembalo with Menno van Delft. While in Amsterdam, Ahlskog received an organ diploma and a Master of Music degree. In 2005 Ahlskog participated in the International Schnitger Organ Competition in Alkmaar, Holland where he was one of the award winners.
For the past few years he has been performing complete organ works of several different composers, such as Felix Mendelssohn, César Franck, Franz Liszt, A. G. Ritter and J. S. Bach.
From 2006 to 2014 Ahlskog worked at the Kokkola Swedish Parish as a church musician. In 2014 he accepted a position at the Conservatory of Oulu as a director and a lecturer of organ in the Church Music Department.
Ahlskog actively participates as a consult and supervisor in many different organ building projects and is a member of the Organ Committee of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. In 2016 the Organum Society granted Christian Ahlskog a Challenge Award.What does Bach mean to me?
